NC Audio Play Festival 2025

We proudly present the 6th Annual NC Audio Play Festival! Originally co-created by The Cary Playwrights’ Forum and Creative Greensboro in 2020.

Script Submissions

We need short form audio plays for our 2025 festival lineup!

The submission window is NOW OPEN. The submission form will close after May 31st.

SCRIPT REQUIREMENTS

Check out this example of Standard Play Format

The playwright MUST be a North Carolina resident.
The script should be written in Standard Play Format. Your stage directions will instead be sound effects.
The script should be 10-15 minutes in length (roughly 8-13 pages)
The script MUST be anonymized. Remove all references to the author(s) name(s) and contact information.
The script MUST be in the form of an audio play. Stage directions should be replaced with suggestions for sound effects.
The script MUST contain an element of horror, science-fiction, supernatural, fantasy, or general “spookiness.”
If the script is a derivative work, the script MUST be a transformation or unique interpretation of the original source material rather than an adaptation. We can easily find faithful adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.”
We will not produce scripts that promote hateful rhetoric. Satire is fine – but it needs to be clear in tone that the script is a satire. The production team will not punch down.

WRITER AGREEMENTS

By submitting your play you are confirming that you are the sole creator(s) of the work. You are also confirming that you consent to The Cary Playwrights’ Forum releasing an audio production of your script on a free-to-stream format (YouTube, Spotify, etc.).
By submitting your play you will allow voice performers limited online access to read your script for audition purposes. Access to the scripts will be removed after the audition period.
By submitting your play you are confirming that you understand that writers will not be compensated. All writers will be credited as the creator(s) of their respective work. The Cary Playwrights’ Forum will not claim any ownership or copyright of the submitted scripts.
The Cary Playwrights’ Forum does not sell tickets or merchandise related to this event and does not profit from this event. The purpose of this event is to share new stories with friends, family, and community in a unique, accessible format.
By submitting your play you are confirming that you understand that writers will not be included in the production process. This includes casting, rehearsals, and the recording and editing process.
By submitting your play you understand that The Cary Playwrights’ Forum is an educational organization and that the purpose of the 2025 NC Audio Play Festival is experimentation over monetization.
