CALL FOR SCRIPTS:<\/b><\/p>\n

Call for Submissions: deadline March 17, 2020<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Ten short plays by North Carolina playwrights will be selected for full production in NC 10 by 10. The festival runs July 16-19 at The Cary Theatre in Cary and July 23-26 at The PSI Theatre in the Durham Arts Council building in downtown Durham. NC 10 by 10 has grown to be the most-attended short-play festival in the region, with last year\u2019s show having over 1300 patrons.<\/p>\n

Producers:<\/em>
\nThe festival is produced jointly by Cary Playwrights\u2019 Forum and OdysseyStage. Each group will cast and produce five of the ten winners. All ten plays will be presented at each performance, with the production moving from The Cary Theatre to the PSI Theatre in Durham for its second weekend.<\/p>\n

Submissions:<\/em>
\nNC 10 by 10 accepts entries only from playwrights currently living in North Carolina. Students attending a NC college full-time, and military personnel stationed in NC qualify.<\/p>\n

The competition is limited to unpublished plays that have not been produced in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham and surrounding areas). Plays that have had staged readings are acceptable.<\/p>\n

Scripts must include cast and set descriptions and be in standard play format using 12-point font.<\/p>\n

Scripts must run no longer than 10 minutes. We will NOT accept plays with longer run times. Please time your plays prior to submission.<\/p>\n

Scripts must have simple tech and staging requirements. The scenery will be very basic with only a few set-pieces. Plays with more than one scene or requiring numerous pieces of furniture will not be selected for production.<\/p>\n

Musicals with little or no accompaniment will be considered.<\/p>\n

Playwrights may submit up to two scripts in MS Word or PDF format, sending each submission in a separate email.<\/p>\n

Email Contents:<\/span><\/p>\n

The subject line should have the words \u201cNC 10 by 10 Submission\u201d followed by the title of the play (sample subject line: NC 10 by 10 Submission \u2013 The Interview).<\/p>\n

The BODY of the email MUST include the title of the play, a short synopsis, and the playwright\u2019s contact information, including name, mailing address (at least the town), phone (optional), and email. DO NOT attach contact information to script.<\/p>\n

There must be NO contact information on the script itself. Scripts that contain contact information will be disqualified.<\/p>\n

Submission Dates:<\/span>
\nFebruary 9th \u2013 March 17th, 2020. Plays will not be accepted after March 17th, 11:59PM EST. The email address for submissions is submissions@caryplaywrightsforum.org<\/p>\n

Notifications:<\/span>
\nWe will notify the 10 winners by email and post those titles by April 15, 2020 on our websites: www.caryplaywrightsforum.org<\/a> and www.odysseystage.org<\/a><\/p>\n

The Award:<\/span>
\nEach writer whose work is produced during the festival will receive an award of $50 and two complimentary tickets to the show at the venue of their choice.<\/p>\n

We had a successful interaction with Tiny Engine Theatre awhile back. Our playwrights will provide such a professional troupe with scenes that have already been through revisions after cold readings. The group will pick scenes that they can cast and would be fun to read; then they\u2019ll share a read-through with us at our regular monthly meeting. The company will share their impressions about the characters and the story; Tiny Engine gave us a delightfully different experience than regular CPF meetings. Interested? In your submission email, include your name, email address, copy of script (pdf), synopsis of character descriptions, and an affirmation if you\u2019ve revised the script since a previous CPF read-through.
